Youths Attack Customs Officers For Intercepting Smuggled Rice


A team of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone B of the Nigeria Customs Service who were operating along Kamba/Bunza road in Kebbi State on patrol on November 10 intercepted a vehicle laden with bags of foreign rice suspected to have been smuggled into the-country but came under attack by some youths from neighboring communities. The youths attempted to disarm one of the officers and a shot was fired which hit one of the youths. The injured youth was immediately rushed to the General Hospital Kamba and later died, while some of the officers sustained injuries.

According to a statement issued by ASCI Mailafiya Abel Magaji, Public Relations Officer of the FOU on behalf of the Comptroller, Mustafa Sariin –Kebbi, following the death of the youth an attempt was made by some angry youths to burn the Customs barracks in Kamba but they were repelled by security operatives.
